M.J. Bale Romantics: Taylor & Mackenzie

For our Love Hub segment, we chat with loved-up newlyweds – and friends of the brand – to ask all the most pressing questions of their romantic storyline: where did you meet, was it love at first sight… you get the picture.

M.J. Bale: Hi Mackenzie & Taylor Malloy, Congratulations on your wedding! Can you tell us how you both first met?
Answer: Thank you! We met 7.5 years ago at Splendour in the Grass through our mutual friends. Danced the night away to Kendrick Lamar & Gang of Youths.

M.J. Bale: And was it love at first sight?

Answer: We definitely both think so! We both thought there’s no way the other would go for each other. Low and behold, only took us a couple of drinks to build the confidence to start chatting and the rest is history.

M.J. Bale: What was it about your partner that made you fall for them?

Answer: Thought we’d answer this one separately:

Mackenzie: Taylor is the most beautiful and caring person. She always puts others before herself.
Taylor: Macca is loyal and caring, he can make friends with anyone and is so easy to get along with. There’s never a dull moment with him.

M.J. Bale: What did you love about your partner when you first met them?

Answer: We just had so much fun around each other. It was hard not to have a good time. It felt so natural from the beginning, we never had to question how we felt about each other. There was a time where I moved away, and Macca moved away but life just kept pushing us back together – everything always works out the way that its meant to!

M.J. Bale: Tell us about the proposal. Where was it? How did it happen? Was it a surprise?

Answer: As much as Macca tried to make it a surprise, I was a little bit suspicious when he asked me where the nice camera was and insisted on going on a morning walk like we do every morning…
Macca proposed on Cotton Tree Beach which is one of our favorite beaches on the Sunshine Coast. We went for a stroll with our puppy and he got down on one knee to propose. Macca’s sister & my brother were hiding behind the bushes videoing and came running once I’d said yes! We spent that day celebrating with our brothers and sisters by the pool, it was the perfect day. Macca had proposed two days before Christmas, so we got to surprise the rest of our families on Christmas day.

M.J. Bale: Can you tell us a bit about your choice to don an M.J. Bale number for the wedding? Were you chuffed with the final outcome?

Answer: The boys were definitely chuffed with the outcome. Their suits from MJ Bale were exactly what Macca had picture, stylish & classy and felt amazing on. Macca & the groomsmen were all stoked with their fits. The staff at the Wintergarden store were really helpful and professional throughout the whole process.. big shoutout to Clancy who helped the boys! It was definitely a memorable experience for them.

M.J. Bale: Can you both talk to us about the venue for your wedding, where it was, and what was the inspiration? It looked stunning!

Answer: After looking at a few venues on the Sunshine Coast and not feeling completely sold, we decided to try our luck in Byron Bay at a place that was special to us —where we first met. The moment we arrived; we were blown away. The set-up and the location was everything we’d dreamed of. Everything about the property won us over – The villa had a huge infinity pool that looked over the Byron hills, the beautiful big fig tree which we got married under was in between rows of macadamia trees, the cocktail hour had a view of the ocean & was surrounded by lush gardens, and the reception hall had beautiful draping & big enough dance floor! The venue was not only stunning, but we could picture everything flowing seamlessly on the day because it was all located on the property. We also wanted a venue where we knew our guests would have fun and be wowed at the same time.

M.J. Bale: Have you had a honeymoon yet, or any plans for one?

Answer: We had a mini moon in Byron which was amazing to decompress and take in all the moments that had occurred during the wedding weekend, but we hope to have a bigger holiday next year in Europe when the dust settles a bit.

M.J. Bale: Can you talk to us about the emotions you felt on the wedding day?

Answer: Macca was a mixture of nerves, adrenalin & happiness and I was a bit the same. The one thing I was really nervous about was everyone staring at me as I walked down the aisle, & Macca was the same with him standing at the end of the aisle. But if you just look at each other, everyone else kind of gets blocked out. It was also a bit of a surreal feeling, standing there in front of all our favorite people getting married, it still doesn’t quite feel like it happened. It honestly was the best day of our lives, we wish we could do it all over again.

M.J. Bale: Lastly, does life feel any different for you now that you’re married, or is it business as usual?

Answer: For us it doesn’t feel any different to what it was before. We have a beautiful home together on the Sunshine Coast and a beautiful puppy so it’s not a bad business as usual!

M.J. Bale: Finally, what advice would you give to other couples planning their big day?

Answer: Macca would say don’t ask too much about the budget, just let your wife do her thing haha! But I would say, if I could do anything over again, it would be to start the day earlier – it really does go so quickly and an extra hour or two added to the timeline would’ve been bliss. & Also live by the motto easy, breezy bride, I really let go of the stress and just had the absolute best time!
